Sadie Mae: 3months old

Sadie Mae is such a fun, beautiful, smart, perfect little baby!!  She turned three months old 3 days ago and what a couple of months it's been!

She's had issues with reflux since she was born but the last couple of months it's seemed to just explode into a horrible, never ending battle.  I'll feed her and she'll spit EVERYTHING up and then some.  It's so frustrating to feed her and for it to be all over her and I, 30 seconds after she's full.  My shirt seems to always be covered in spit up and her outfits are always soaked.  We go through laudry like you wouldn't believe.

I started worrying about her awhile ago when it seemed like all of my friends would comment how small she was and how it seemed like she wasn't growing at all.  Sure enough, her percentiles keep dropping and dropping and dropping.  She was 46th percentile at one month old, then 22nd, then 21st, down to 14th........ yikes.

I must admit, our doctor isn't the most proactive lady you've seen.  She has not been any help at all.  So we've come up with a "fatten up Sadie plan"by ourselves.  She will sleep 8-12 hours at a time at night so I've been waking her up 2-3 times to eat.  She tried a reflux medicine for 3 weeks that didn't seem to help that much, so I've cut out all milk/dairy, and eggs from my diet.  I record everything that goes into my mouth so we can trace it back to her frequency of spit ups.  And you know what, slowly but surely it's working.

She went from 14th to 17th in one week. (We go in for weekly weigh ins) Then onto 19th the next.  She's holding steady at 19th and we'll go in again on Tuesday before we move.

It really is such a worry for us.  I'll do pretty much anything to have a healthy happy baby!  Other than that, she is such a FUN FUN baby.

She's such a little talker, so social.  She can burp and fart like a grown man which cracks us up so much.  She is so smiley and now laughs at us.  She is as ticklish as they come.  She's an explosion waiting to happen.  She'll go 2 days w/o going #2 then we'll hear an explosion and it will be over everything!!!!!  Clothes, vibrator, swing, person... etc.  While sitting in her little chair she'll look around and get so excited about everything.  She'll kick, kick, kick with her little hands just shaking with excitement.

Sadie is good at holding her head up, she's rolled over back to stomach and stomach to back, laughed, smiled, and hair is growing super fast this month.  She is still in all her 0-3 month clothes but hopefully soon we can graduate to 3-6.... it'll come with her "fatten up" plan.

We love her like crazy!  Peyton loves his little Sadie and is so proud of her.  Praying for a good month and we'll keep on keeping on.

This crazy life

*sigh* It feels so good justs to sit down for a couple minutes.  I've been on turbo speed the last couple of weeks!  But, my house is 95% packed!!  Hallelujah!!!  Now moving onto cleaning everything.  We go to the new house on Monday to pick out all new carpet and paint.  Looks like I'll be diving into Pinterest head first today to figure out some paint color ideas and such.

There sure seems like a heck of a lot more to do with this move then there was with the last one.  Eric's been busy calling all kinds of cattle dealers and connections to sell all our cattle, we've been juggling trips to and from Shippensburg to get things transfered(bank accounts, etc) We've been taking loads to Goodwill and wherever to get rid of stuff, putting lots of stuff on Craigslist to get rid of, selling all our chickens.

Same place, same story with Eric and working.  He's been working the same amount of hours which leaves me alone with all the packing... and the watching of the kids and such.  We've been really blessed with so many helpful people.  I've had a couple people come over this week to pack boxes from the kitchen.

Sadie turned 3 months a couple days ago and oh boyyyyyyy, what a baby!!  This month has been filled with numerous doctor appointments to get everything straightened out with her health.  I will be posting a whole post on that itself later.  When I've got two more seconds to string together.

There have been a couple fun dairy meetings to thank employees that we've gone to as well.  One at Mark Hershey farms that we brought our friend's the Sabey's to.  Yummy icecream, food, and train rides.  Then another one for Holstein Field night for Lebanon county a few days ago.  Yummy food again with lots of icecream and big blow up toys to jump on.

Have I mentioned that Peyton is addicted to chocolate icecream!  This was after Field Night!!  As we were leaving he needed an icecream cone to go.

Eric took us out to our all time favorite restaurant one last time before we move...... mostly to get us out of the house.  (going stir-crazy a bit)

My cute kids!!  Peyton looked dashing in his sunday suit.  Love the flipflops with the suit.  Too bad I've already packed all kinds of things that we're missing lately.

Let me just say how great the hubs is to me!!!!!  Stress, lack of sleep, and worrying about Sadie has probably made me a bit grumpier than usual and he's put up with it all.  Well last night he told me he had a surprise for me.......... i love surprises!!!!  We drove to the outlets, he dropped me off with a wad of cash, told me to have fun and went to play on the playground with the chilluns.  Best guy ever!!!!!  Has been a long time since I went shopping!!!

Eric has five days left of all day  work............ countdown starts now!!!!

I believe in prayer

It has always been Eric's dream to own his own farm!  I've really wanted to own a farm someday as well.  After working in Maryland for three years and saving as much money as we could, we sold our truck and everything else we could, took our savings and bought a few cows to get us started in Annville, Pennsylvania.  This was a decision we didn't come to without hours and hours of hashing out the pros and cons, budgets, and what our future would be like.  We knew that we were making a great sacrifice at least for the first few years so we could make a better life for ourselves.

The situation we entered into seemed to be perfect!!  It would take us 5 years to buy all 55 cows on the place and then we'd be in charge.  Within that 5 year time span of buying all the cattle we were "phasing out" the dairy farmer, Barry.  So for those 5 years, Barry was boss.  We made 15% of the milk check from all the cows that we owned in the barn, which we used for farm expenses (medications, vet bills, surgeries, and we were using all of that to buy more cows)  The rest of the money from our cow's milk checks went to Barry for the expense of housing, feed, and labor.  On top of that all, Barry was paying our family a base salary for the 5 years.  The sacrifice came in the form of putting countless hours in...... Barry is still the boss and they go till the work is done.

The first couple months of this transition almost one year ago exactly was great!!  Eric seemed to be thriving as a dairy farmer.  It was fun to be living right on the farm too that we could visit him anytime we wanted.  It felt good to us to own something of our own (the cows) and the area where we live is wonderful.  I can't even tell you how awesome teh ward is that we're in!!!!!!!  I love this ward with everything in me!!!  It really seemed like our dreams were all coming true.  Then reality set in.

Truth is, Eric never spent time with us.  We came in teh midst of crop season and they were out there from before sunup to sun down.  I felt so grateful to be there and was excited that we were doing something wonderful for our future, but at the same time I was counting down the days till winter started and Eric would get to be in the house more often.  Well, winter came and went..... and Eric was out there working just as many hours as before.

I'd like to think I'm a strong person but 90 hour work weeks are basically single parenting for me.  Eric would come back in for dinner at 7 or later, exhausted from a long day of really hard work, he'd sit down after dinner and be asleep in less than 5 minutes.  He was home, but he was never "really home."  After a few months of this, it was really wearing on me.

We had made this transition so we'd have our own cows, we'd be our own bosses so that we could go to our children's extracurricular activities as a family, have family time, help each other on the farm, etc etc.  This was all we wanted.  Night after night I'd ask Eric to remind me of the light at the end of the tunnel.  I was getting more and more sure that "the light" we'd been hoping for, was a fantasy for a dairy farmer.  Even after Eric did own all the cows and had the last say in everything, the harsh reality is that he would still have to put in however many hours of work there was to do.  And there is a LOT of work to do on a dairy farm!!!!!  Just milking alone..... Eric starts at 4 in the morning and ends at 6:30...... there's all the work around the farm in the middle of the day (field work if it's crop season) then they start with milking all over again at 4 in the afternoon.

Of course I could go out and help him when we own all of the cows as well, but I wouldn't be 100% reliable because my first and foremost responsibilty was to our children.   We are hoping to have a couple more kids so I will have tiny little children for quite a few years..... farms aer dangerous..... I didn't want them to traipse all over the place without me.  Anyway, bottom line is that Eric would be left with most of the work after all is said and done.

Farmers have done this for centuries, they are a good hard working lot.  And my husband is among the hardest working of them all but we're starting from nothing.  We haven't inherited a farm like so many other farmers out there.  We're going in completely green and essentially penniless.  A farm is a 2 million investment at least.  I will admit that part of the light at the end of the tunnel was the income Eric had projected for us.  He had done the figures and after the five years, we figured we'd be making quite a hefty chunk of change.  That def sounded alright with me!  Even after the farm mortgage and everything, the numbers came out quite well for us.  It wasn't too long into this venture that we realized how dumb we'd been about all that.  There are bills ALL the time for stuff you'd never even think about in the first place.  Machinery breaks down, have to pay bills for that.  You're milking equipment, hauling of animals to auction, unforeseen surgery on cows, infections, medications, feed prices go up because of weather (drought), etc etc etc.  The list truly goes on and on and on and on........ There are so many crazy bills for everything that our 5 year plan to purchase all teh cows has lengthened steadily just because the money we thought would be there to buy a cow went to a bill for something else.

I'm just draggin this on and on but I just wanted to get all of the background details across.  I understand that this is our life, and I've become ok with this.  Somedays when I just think about time and how this is a forever thing for us, I'll tease Eric, "Why can't you just go back to school to be a lawyer or something."  I mean for pete's sake, they probably work less than half the hours Eric does and actually get paid something while doing it.  He laughs and shakes his head.  Our family time consists of going to cow auctions with Eric, or doing anything for an hour or two in the evening (has to be cheap and we have to get home early so he can go to bed)

Somedays I feel like I just can't do it anymore.  Eric will never get to go on vacations with us, he'll always be in a permanent sleepy state, we'll have to do soooo many things without him, and we'll always be poor.  It just seems so unfair!!

On these really really hard days when the kids are crying all the time, I just can't get any work done, and everything is just so overwhelming, I turn to the one person I know that understands exactly what I'm going through.  He's felt what I've felt, he knows what the light is at the end of the tunnel, and He can bolster me up until a good day comes!   I've prayed for sooo many different things.  Patience with my children and husband, strength to get through a day, courage to do airplane rides all alone, an understanding and sympathy when Eric falls asleep when we're in conversation, empathy when he can't keep his eyes open during ANY of churhc, and most of all.... I've prayed that one day it will get better for us.

The funny thing about prayer is I've had such tunnel vision when I ask for things to get better.  Better for me was hoping Eric could get two days off so we could all fly out to Utah for my brother's mission homecoming.  Better was hoping to one day be able to afford extra workers so Eric could get one whole day off sometime. (He hasn't had a full day off in over a year now)  Better was hoping he could make it to our kids little league games.  The Lord has had a better plan for us than we've had for ourselves and I'm so humbled.

A month ago out of the blue, Eric came to me one day and said, "Bre, I've applied for a job in southern pennsylvania."  Talk about coming out of right field.   WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT>>>??????!!!  Our dream, our years of prepping and saving, working hard...... gone?  I had been praying for things to get better for so  long for things to get better but had never thought to think of anything outside of dairy farming.  Because that's all Eric ever wanted.

It all comes down to this....... Eric loves dairy farming a lot!  But he's realized over the past year that he loves something even more...... his family.  It hit him like a ton of bricks when I was in labor with Sadie.  I had started laboring and we were going into the night.... Eric knew that he would never be able to make it for milking in teh morning so he called Barry.  Barry let him know plain as day that that was unacceptable.  Eric WOULD be there to milk come morning time.  Eric kept arguing his point that he needed to be there for me when I had the baby.  Barry wouldn't have any of it.  So finally Eric just told him that he'd do what he could to be there and they hung up.  By the time we were taken to the maternity wing it was 4:30 a.m.  Milking was already going on, so Eric slept for 2 hours then went back to work.  I stayed all alone at the hospital.... having to call complete strangers in to help me get up and out of bed just for the restroom.  My stay at the hospital was really lonely.  When Peyton was born Eric had helped me up and down, he'd helped me through the night so I could have breaks to rest, and when the baby would cry he'd hand him to me.  I was left all alone this go round.

During Peyton's hospital stay for his intussuseptcion... I was all alone.  Being a dairy farmer's wife is lonely.

There are a few nonconsequential things that happened as well from Barry's side that cemented Eric's change of heart.  Barry was not completely honest with us from the beginning about certain things.

After applying to a few jobs we've found one that has me weeping everytime I think about it.  It's a job still in the dairy industry.  They would provide a house, an increase in pay, weekends off, two weeks paid vacation...... I could go on and on about how wonderfuol this job is!

My husband gets to sleep in for once........ and I'm sooooo excited for him!!!!!  He gets to go to Utah with us when we go, he gets off early enough in the evening that he can eat dinner with us, he can take me on a date, he will stay awake while we're talking.

Heavenly Father knows us, he wants what's best for us and He really wants us to be happy!!!  I'm soooooo grateful for the Spirit and the way it touched Eric's heart to want to change his lifelong dream.

Recent Happenings

So last weekend I was supposed to babysit the Gooden's children from thursday to Sunday.  I was super excited about it..... then I got really sick!  So Sabey's came over and did it instead..... we stayed home from church that sunday to try to recuperate all the way.  Then Eric's brother Brandon visited us for a couple days!!!  Peyton absolutely LOVES his uncle bam-bam!!  Brandon is so sweet with him, reads him books, takes him out to the barns all he wants and just has fun with him.  Peyton is always talking about his uncle bam-bam!!!
He left on Wednesday so that evening we went to the fair!!!  oh my heck, I love the fair!!  Eric loves the fair and I'm 100% positive that Peyton loves the fair now too!  I got my DELICIOUS traditional caramel apple!  We bought some delicious raspberry and chocolate shakes, walked around to look at animals and Peyton went on his first rides.  ADRENALINE JUNKIE!  Holy toledo, you should've seen the tantrum that kid threw when it was time to go home!  Eric and I both love rides so it was a relief that he likes them too.
Then that evening.... super late, our dear friends the Shahan's came to visit!!  The stayed till Saturday.... celebrating Briley's birthday.  We went to Hershey park, just hung out and ate some delicious food!  I'm tellling you, my friend Rachelle is a freaking WHIZ in the kitchen. She made us some egg gravy for breakfast on Saturday and o. my. heck.... i"m in love with that stuff!

Hershey park times!  Sadie chilled out in the carrier for awhile but was completely zonked out so we transferred her to the stroller hoping that she'd stay a little cooler.  Peyton was originally in the stroller but keeping him in that thing while at an amusement park with so much to do and explore was like cruel and unusual punishment.
We loveeeeddd the wave pool!  The shahan kids were hilarious jumping in with no fear!!!  Peyton is a little scaredy when it comes to water but he kept right at the edge and really enjoyed it there.  The only mishap with the whole thing was when his diaper literally EXPLODED.  He was sitting on a bench and we were about to go explore new rides after we were done swimming and we see chunks of this weird white stuff all over.  To be honest it looks like shaved ice off snow cones.  Nope, totally his diaper.  We had forgotten a little swimmer diaper for himm and he'd gone in the pool with a normal one on.  NOW, I understand there is a huge difference between them!
I'm gangstah!  We were busting a move with him!  There was music blaring all over.  Mary was one of my young women in the Smyrna ward too so it was fun to hang out with her again!

Roller coaster faces!  Too cheap to buy souvenir pictures after each ride but this is def what we looked like on Sky rush.  Briley's head was hanging down the whole time.  Rachelle kept yelling..... "are you ok Briley."  I was in the middle of the two of them.  Fun ride but whoah, super intense.  We all had headaches for awhile after that.

Have I mentioned how freaking pumped I was that Eric got to come with us.  I couldn't believe it!!!  Felt soooo good to actually do stuff with him.
We stayed till the park closed and I'm telling you, the funnest time to be at the park is at night.  There are NO lines..... it was crazy!  The temperatures were cooler, the lights are awesome on everything and it's a cool sensation to do rollercoasters in the dark.  Only downside..... grumpy children.  woah!  While at the park, we traded off with the boys for kid shifts.  The girls (Rachelle adn I and the oldest kids) took the first shift while the boys took all the kids on the kiddie rides.  We just switched off liek that all day.  Pretty good setup I think!!  Although, in the future I do want to go on one ride with the hubs!!
After the Shahan's left on Saturday and after Eric got done with work that evening we headed to a community picnic!!  They have fun little "train rides" for the kids.  See it being pulled by a riding lawn mower!  Now, THAT's real entertainment.  I'm obsessed with the sausage sandwiches they serve at this thing.  We went to this same picnic last year and I was equally obsessed with them!

We were flip flop twins for the evening!
In the meantime, we've been going to and fro taking care of friend's dog, Rollo.  AFter the Shahan's left, the kids and I have spent every night here.  It works out al ot better because we can take him outside right before bed and right when we wake up so he doesn't have any accidents.  It's been fun staying here.  The Gooden's have a beautiful house and so for these two weeks I can pretend like it's mine.  Kinda silly but oh well.  I even had Eric come over last night after work just to take a shower here.  HEAVEN!!!  There is actually water pressure, the hot water lasts longer then 3 minutes, and the bathroom is huge.  He loved it!  The Gooden's were really generous and let us use their house for canning peaches today too.  Eric's family came down to help and they could barely believe how beautiful this house is either.  I really love the Goodens...... even without their super nice house.  They are sooo chill and generous with everything!  I really want to be more like them!

Day 14

14.  Describe 5 strengths you have.

1.  I'm a really loving person!  I love to let my husband know how much I love him all the time.... same with my children.  I'd like to think that my friends and family feel my love in everythng I do as well.

2.  I'm fun!  Just went to Hersheypark a couple days ago and while the boys had the little kids, us girls went to ride some big rollercoasters.  By that time, there were hardly any lines and we literally RAN to the ride itself.  We were hyper, happy and just excited!  As we were running my friend Rachelle says, "Who needs to get drunk when you have Bre."  I just really like to have fun.

3.  I'm a good mom.  Yes, I know I'm not perfect but my kdis are absolutely everything to me and I think it shows in everything I do with them!!

4.  I'm a good singer.

5.  I'm a good listener!

Day 13

13. Describe 5 weaknesses you have.

1.  Prioritizing/procrastinating.  I have such good intentions but when it comes right down to it, I put off 75% of everything and then half the time it doesn't get done in the end because I'm always on cram mode and trying to cram everything into small windows of time.  Even if I had the time, I forget soooo much stuff these days.  Oi, I'm already getting old!

2.  I like to have my own way a little tooooo much.  This one is super horrible!  My poor husband...... if i want something, sometimes I feel like NOTHING can stand in my way.

3.  Such a pushover when it comes to my kids.  Peyton is STILL having such issues with nursery.  Even worse than before.  It seriously breaks. my. heart. to see my little guy soooooooooo distressed from getting left in nursery..... I just can't leave him some days.  I keep thinking that childhood is so fleeting and one day soon he won't need me so much.... or think he needs me as much.  And that breaks my heart too!  I want him to be independent and happy to be at church, but I also don't mind that he needs me now.

4.  Too quiet sometimes..... me quiet???  YUP!  Some things bug me soooo much and I lots of the times, I don't say anythign because I don't want to offend.  It especially bugs me when people interject when it comes to MY children!  No, i don't need anyone else punishing him, or telling him what is or isn't allowed in the house when they don't even know what our rules are, or helping me make him stay on time-out, or telling me how to parent him.  They are MY kids and sure I'm not perfect but I'm doing the best I can and I don't want a bajillion other people trying to be their parent too..... confusing for them and super annoying for me.  I need to speak up in these instances and tell peopel to BACK OFF!!!

  5.  I'm soooo grumpy when I don't get my sleep!  woah........ unfortunately, my kids are like that too.  You make for a whole tired family and it's a ticking time bomb!

I found writing this post quite fun!  I've def got a lot more than 5 weaknesses but I feel so empowered that my weaknesses can become strengths if I turn to the Lord and work on them!!!  This is my new list to work on!!

Sistah Visit!

First off..... it meant sooo much to me to have my sister visit for a week!  I know how freaked out she was to travel with Tyler on the plane, but she still came!  Sure makes me feel good!  We had a blast while she was here.  We went and did lots of fun things but mostly, I just enjoyed being with them.  I loved having a buddy around and I'm pretty sure Peyton did too.  There were moments when Tyler and Peyton would scream and fight over toys and things but ya know what, I think it was so good for Peyton.  Helped him learn to share a little better.  He sure loves his Ty-ty!  I love every chance I get to be with them.
We all made french toast together one morning!!!

We went to Hershey world a couple times to go on the free tour (with singing cows.... it's a big deal!!)  We also got Ben some chocolate........... haha!

We went to Aldi's!  Many a memory have been made at that store.  We had one close to our house when we lived in Iowa City and we'd always go there for the grocery shopping!  There were special chocolates that we'd buy everytime we went and we took turns being the one who put the quarter into the shopping cart chains.  So it was a good blast from the past to be there with Whit!

Tyler loved this thing!!! Wish they could've taken it home with them since Peyton couldcare less about it..... except when someone else is on it of course.

Water table fun!  Tyler was hilarious, he kept dunking his head in the water....... Normally that would be ok but the water was coming out of our hose, pure brown.  That can NOT be good for you!!!

Favorite picture ever!!!!  We were having family scripture and prayers before bedtime!!

Making soup together!!  Peyton was being all careful and spooning ingredients into his large mixing bowl and Tyler was over there eating all the ingredients.   The bouillon cubes came up missing and sure enough.... Tyler had unwrapped thme and eaten them whole.  YUUCKCKK!  haah, that kid sure cracks me up!

Like I said, it was so fun to have them!  One of my biggest hopes is that Peyton and Sadie are always really good friends with their cousins!!  I never want those relationships to fade!! Family is the most important and I hope we can always let them know how much we care!!!  Love you peeps!
